In continuation of the effort to reduce congestion at Canadian borders, IRCC* has implemented a series of measures since the end of 2024. The year 2025 is expected to be more restrictive in terms of immigration. Among these measures are:
The end of the practice where candidates in the Express Entry system received additional points if they had a job offer.
The termination of the "flag pole" practice, where temporary residents would leave Canada and immediately return to a port of entry to benefit from immigration services.
The end of automatic issuance of multiple-entry visas valid for 10 years.
The introduction of a partial visa requirement for Mexican nationals to reduce the high number of asylum applications.
The stricter eligibility criterias for the temporary foreign workers, the Post-graduation workers and the spouses of foreign students and temporary foreign workers.
This list is not exhaustive, but it does emphasize the idea of making immigration more complex and strict. The only solution is to be well prepared and informed.
Know your rights, pay attention to deadlines, and if an immigration program is available to you today, take advantage of it before it’s no longer possible. Be cautious of unforeseen deadlines and false declarations, as these would directly affect your eligibility to any immigration program.
